Our military reflects to some degree the contemporary sexual attitudes of society, at least in social living in a non-combat deployment environment. I read the ironic and contradictory news media reports about an Air Force enlisted man who was convicted of adultery and the widely publicized erasure of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", which purports to liberate all military service people from sexual discrimination. The irony of this particular legal finding, I think, is that our military finds this person criminally negligent of sexual wrong doing while simultaneously embracing other consensual sexual lifestyles in it's own house. The airman was convicted, sentenced to more than a year's incarceration and dishonorably discarded for (arguably) consensual sex. It should not surprise anyone if at some point in the future, our military leaders find that those now newly embraced are also adulterous and dishonorable. Let us stand vigil. Now, actually the Airman was a senior supervisor and had adulterous relations with four women who worked for him. This is patently wrong, wrong, wrong. No doubt about it. But, the point I believe, is to loudly proclaim the inequity of the verdict in this case. Fire this wrong do-er certainly, but why sentence this person or any other to prison for what should find itself a non-criminal matter. Just my opinion. All are welcome to comment.
